LAND ROVER OF THE MONTH, 2008
January 2008:
Due to extreme cold and your humble webmaster's self-diagnosted light deprevation syndrome (the Winter Blues), there was no Rover of the Month for January, 2008. We were all hibernating, anyway.
February 2008:
It's Charlie... and he's right-side-up! Charlie is one of the oldest members of this club. Wait, wait - what we mean is that he's been a member longer than most of us, no matter how old he is (he must be at least 29 by now?).
Word is that he and Terry will not be hosting an exchange student this year, thus giving them a huge lease on their offroading lives! Look for them on the trail pretty much everywhere. Gilbert, the new OHV park in Western MN, Ma and Pa Rockers, at the Solihull Society rallye, at the Mishupishu North Lakes Rallye, at MAR. Charlie promises to be everywhere this year, and we promise to tap into his enthusiasm and follow along as often as we can!
March 2008:
Hey, The Blondo's aren't STUCK!!!!
(That's a joke... they're still a little sensitive, so be nice...)
Steven and Beth Blondo, with their twins, Julien and Sebastien, represent the club this month riding in their formerly dent and scratch-free 2001 Discovery.
What were they doing in the woods, in winter, so far from home? Breaking in their truck, of course! With a little encouragement from the twins (GO GO GO!!!!!) they made their first club weekend trip memorable.
Steven has a tough reputation to live up to, with the new Indiana Jones movie so close on the horizon. However, as an archaeologist who showed very strong in his first real forray into off-roading, it would seem that he's the man for the job.
Look for the Blondos at several events this year. Word is: they are hooked!
April 2008:
Ahh, Spring... The weather is getting warm and the salty roads are becoming a thing of the past. What? What's that about Bret Degayner?
That's right! He swears his new Yellow Defender 90 will come out of the garage and actually hit a street - maybe even a trail!
Those of us who have waited all winter to see that baby may very well get rewarded one of these warm April days. Bret won't let us down, will he?
If history is any indicator, we'll see him out there soon.
May 2008:
Last month we opened by saying, "Ahhh, spring". And then the temperature plummeted. And then the snows came. The MN4WDA Spring Convention? Made interesting by over 12 inches of snow - at the end of April! How wrong we were about Spring!
With regards to weather, anyway.
There is another Spring upon us, in the form of the new "Youngest Member" of the MNLR - Vincent Monico!
Yes, Scott and Elizabeth Monico introduced little 7lb 8oz Vincent on April 22. In honor of this most glorious of events, we've chosen to have the people who DO the Roving as the ROVERs of the Month for May, 2008, which will forever be known as Vincent Monico's first month of Roving.
Congratulations, Scott and Elizabeth! Welcome, Vincent!
June 2008:
Due to extreme heat and wet (and travel!) and the Webmaster's birthday, there was no Rover of the Month for June, 2008.
July / August 2008:
One thing is for sure:If the current birthrate remains steady, our club will enjoy a full membership for years to come.
Beth and Steven Blondo introduced the newest edition to their family, and to the club, on July 5th, 2008. In this, the first photo of Ainsley Stewart Blondo, we see him eagerly toying a Disco replica (ok, maybe he's looking the other way, but whatever). The kid is hooked! The Blondos are definitely starting them early, as many other Rover parents have done (and look how great their kids turned out!).
Congratulations, Beth and Steven! Welcome, Ainsley! Will he be driving in time for the Picnic???
